Orthoptera of Europe is a project of the European Invertebrate Survey (EIS) in cooperation with Naturalis.
The goal of the project is to develop a site that targets the professional and amateur researchers of European Orthoptera (crickets and grasshoppers) as well as nature photographers. The site has been built as a presentation layer on top of an RNA environment.
Besides a validated species list and taxonomic tree, the site presents images, sound recordings, sonograms and distribution information on the more than thousand European Orthoptera. Currently work is done to provide even more information on these species with extensive species descriptions and bibliographies. This is done with the RNA Toolset.
Also determination sets are being prepared that can be presented through the website with the use of the facet determination functionality.
